1 pkg yeast (I use fast acting)
¼ c warm water
1 TBS shortening
1 c hot water
½ c sugar
1 tsp salt
4 c flour
Combine yeast with ¼ c warm water. Allow the yeast to dissolve and to activate (will become foamy). Place in mixing bowl.
I dissolve the sugar into the cup of hot water. Add to mixing bowl with yeast. Beat one egg and add to mixing bowl. Add shortening. Add salt and flour.
Mix dough until it has a nice elastic property. Knead into a ball and place in a greased bowl. Place a clean towel over bowl and place in a warm place for dough to rise. When dough has risen to double in size, punch down and Knead. Form dough into rolls. Place rolls in a well greased baking pan. (It is important that rolls touch each other in the pan). Place in a preheated oven and bake at 400 degrees. As the tops of the rolls become brown, take either shortening or butter and grease the tops of the rolls to allow finish cooking. When rolls are golden brown remove from oven.
