The UPS Store and Marine Toys for Tots Foundation Encourage Childhood Literacy Through Annual Donation Drive

Funds Raised Locally Provide Books to Children in the Greater Community

[Helotes, Texas], – In an effort to help deliver the gift of reading to less fortunate children in the United States, The UPS Store® has launched its annual holiday donation drive for the Toys for Tots Literacy Program.

The UPS Store located at 11844 Bandera Road just outside Loop 1604 is currently raising funds to benefit the Toys for Tots Literacy Program, a year-round initiative of the Marine Toys for Tots

Foundation. The Literacy Program, developed by The UPS Store and the Marine Toys for Tots

Foundation in 2008, is starting earlier than previous years to make this the biggest and best fundraising year to date. One hundred percent of each dollar donated helps purchase books for children who need it most in San Antonio and Helotes areas.

Since partnering with Toys for Tots to launch the Literacy Program in 2008, UPS and The UPS Store network have raised more than $3.5 million to purchase books for underprivileged children nationwide.

Through the partnership, The UPS Store has distributed more than 36.8 million books to children during the holiday season, including right here at home.

“Reading is a critical skill that helps children succeed in school and beyond,” said The UPS Store

franchise owner Dennis Peak “The UPS Store is dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of these children through literacy and education during the holiday season and throughout the year.”

“The community’s participation in the Toys for Tots Literacy Program is a key component to the success of this promotion,” said Dennis. “This program provides us the unique opportunity to work with a nationally-recognized organization yet make an impact in our community, which is only possible because of thoughtful contributions from the people in this area. Last year we were able to raise over $1200 and were in the top 15 stores in the nation. In 2015 we donated over $2200 in books to the Helotes and Kuentz Elementary schools for the children. We hope to do as well or better this year.”

According to research, children who grow up in homes where books are plentiful go further in school than those who don’t. Children from traditionally low-education families can do as well as children from high-education families if they have access to books at home. The Toys for Tots Literacy Program continues to not only deliver the gift of reading, but also the promise of a bright future.

The UPS Store located in the Bandera Trails Shopping Center at Bandera Road and Loop 1604 is currently accepting monetary donations, providing the option to add a donation to the total purchase at check- out. In addition to donating in-store, customers can donate online at and learn more about the Toys for Tots Literacy Program.
