Southwest (Greater Helotes) to play Canada

The girls from Helotes will continue their battles against international, cross border opponents today when they take the field against Canada.

Canada finished as the fourth seed in Pool B with an overall record of 1-3. Canada’s only victory in the tournament to date is against the Asia-Pacific team.

Tonight the rules change; most are familiar with Little League tournaments being a double elimination format. However, in the World Series the bracket play has become single elimination. One loss and the team is eliminated from participating in the championship game.

Southwest earned the number one seed in Pool A by remaining undefeated in the tournament. Last night, Southwest played Latin America. Once again, Southwest brought their bats to the game.

Annika Litterio enjoyed a great day at the dish. She started the scoring drive in the first inning by marking up three runs on a two run double. She would continue to drive the offense with her stick as she recorded an RBI on a double in the fourth inning. AJ Sanchez, Litterio, and Arianna Elizondo-Galvin led Southwest with a combined eight hits.

The bump saw lots of changes and action last night. Carmen Vela started the game and pitched two innings. She recorded 1 hit, 2 walks, 2 strikeouts, and had one earned run.

Maddie McKay stepped up to the bump for two innings. She recorded 1 hit, now walks, 1 strike out.

Annika Litterio returned to the bump for the last inning and recorded 1 walk, and three strikeouts.

Game time for tonight will be dependant on the 4pm game. If Southwest wins tonight, they will play in the semi-finals and that game will be televised on ESPN.
