Southwest (GHLL) run for the World Series ends in one inning

The Southwest girls (GHLL) were stunned early in the first inning when Lexi Diaz drove in a run on a single with two outs. Before Annika Litterio could ring up the third out for the inning a Central runner crossed the dish giving the team from Poland Ohio the early lead. A lead the Southwest team would not be able to surmount.

Litterio attempted to rally the troops in the first inning with her hit but the remaining bats couldn’t connect with the pitcher the first inning ended Central 2 Southwest 0.

Litterio would lead off as pitcher for Southwest.   She pitched for 5 and 1/3 inning recoding 17 first strike pitches, 9 strikeouts, and she would surrender 6 runs before returning to the dugout.

Olivia Ball entered the game and pitched 1 2/3 innings. She recorded 5 first strike pitches and surrendered no runs.

They say bats and pitches are the key to winning a game. Central brought both. Central’s batters were responsible for 11 hits in the game, three RBI’s and lead with 7 qualities at bat.

Kaili Gross pitched seven innings for Central and only gave up one hit. She tossed 12 first strike pitches, and eight strikeouts.

With the win Central improves to 4-1 and will advance to the semifinal game to be played Friday at 2pm. Central will face Southeast who enters the game as the top seed in pool A and defeated Latin America to reach the semifinals. The first semifinal will be a match between seed 1 and 2 in pool A. Central and Southeast met previously in pool play and Southeast walked away with a 3-0 victory.

Southwest will play loser out of the Host and West game. This could be rematch from Wednesday’s afternoon game when West was able to sneak past Southwest in a 4-3 victory.

The last game for Southwest is scheduled for Friday, August 4 at 1:45pm Kirkland time and 3:45pm Helotes time.
