Tonight, August 3 at 4:45pm Kirkland time, 6:45pm Helotes time the first pitch will fly between the teams from Southwest and Central. Now the tournament has entered the bracket portion one losing game and the team will be eliminated from the tournament.
Southwest ran through the district tournament undefeated as they chewed up their opponents. During the sectional tournament the team from Fredericksburg stole a victory from GHLL before losing the next two and the championship. During the State tournament the team went undefeated and repeated the feat at the regional tournament to earn a birth to the Little League World Series.
In pool play Southwest lost two heartbreaking games by one run each. In both games Southwest attempted a rally in the late innings to erase the difference but were stymied by East and West.
Tonight, Central will take their shot at the Southwest. Central enters the game as the number two seed in pool A. Central has an overall tournament record of 3-1. Except for Canada, who Central pummeled, all other victories have been very close.
Southwest enters bracket play as the third seed in pool B. They have an overall record of 2-2. Southwest pummeled last year’s Champions Latin America in the first game. Lost to East and West, and demolished Europe-Africa.
Coaches for Southwest hope that both pitchers are well rested for the most important part of the tournament and will be relying on the change up substitution rotation that has kept most of their opponents guessing and unsure of the next move.
A summary and highlights from the game will be available after the last pitch is thrown.
