13 men from around the area traveled to the Josh Davis Natatorium to participate in the Regional diving championship. The lead kept switching between the five top divers.
This year, in District 27 6A three freshmen, earned the top three honors. Max Penning, freshman O’Connor, finished third in the district and earned eighth place at the regional meet.
Jake Nelms, freshman Brandeis, the district silver medalist battled to a fifth place finish. Nick McCann, Brennan freshman district 27 6A champion, finished in third at regions and is the first alternate in case of the two top finishers could not compete.
Michael Bell, junior Johnson, finished the meet at the second alternate to the state meet earning a fourth place ribbon. Only 1.75 points separated Bell from fifth place.
Senior, Matthew De La Garza, finished first and qualified to the State meet.
Senior, Dawson Martinez, finished second place and qualified to the state meet.
The UIL State swim/diving meet will be held on February 19-20. The prelims will start at 4:30pm on Friday.
The top 8 divers will reach the final championship. The championship will take place on Saturday, February 20 at 3:30pm.
