San Antonio burger joint, Chris Madrid’s, catches fire cause “undetermined”

Early Sunday morning, witnesses noticed smoke coming from inside the Chris Madrid’s building. Fire fighters responded to the call at 11:14am to find heavy smoke coming from the roof of the famous burger joint.

Second alarm was requested as precautionary measure(28 SAFD units on scene at the height of the fire). Fire under control in roughly 1 hour. SAFD investigators on scene have officially ruled the cause of the fire as “undetermined.”

The business was not open when fire fighters arrived. The fire fighters forced open the doors and found smoke and flames inside the attic area.

Most of the fire damage was caused in the back bar area.

New Madrid’s owner, Richard Peacock, remains uncertain to the opening date. However he and his team are working on plans to restore the restaurant and are hoping to have it reopened for business in a few weeks.
