Officer involved shooting in San Antonio

San Antonio Police officers responded to a disturbance call in the 5900 Royalgate Drive on Friday, August 31.

9-1-1 received a call about a disturbance at this address. Officers were dispatched to location. Upon arrival, they could hear a lot of screaming and yelling. They made contact with the suspect. A white male in their 50’s was alone inside the residence. He opened the door with a butcher knife in hand.

Officers ordered the man to drop the knife, the individual refused and started to advance in the direction of the officer. After repeated commands to drop the knife and to stop, an officer opened fire and the suspect was struck twice—once in the torso and once in the groin.

The suspect then retreated into the residence and officers followed. Officers restrained the suspect inside the resident and administered first aid.

Suspect was transported to a local hospital where he remains in stable condition.

The officer who discharged his weapon has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending internal review by the Police Department and Bexar County District Attorney’s office.
