This past weekend the UIL 6A Region 4 Academic State meet was held at the University of Texas San Antonio. Schools from San Antonio, Austin, and South Texas area earned the right to compete at the meet during district contests held during the beginning of April.
To earn a qualification a student must place in the top 3 in individual events, place first as a team, or earn the spot as being a top scorer in some contests.
Jingsi Zhou earned the spot in the Science competition by placing top scorer in Biology.
Diego Guitierrez earned the trip by placing 3rd in Current Events.
Isabella Eienes captured a silver medal and a trip to State in Editorial Writing.
Sabrina Fielden penned a gold medal Headline and News Writing (qualifying for State) and a 3rd place finish and qualified for State in Feature Writing.
Stevens High School earned the gold medal in the Journalism category.
Teammate Ruben Andrade joins Fielden in Headline Writing with his bronze finish.
The State meet will be held at the University of Texas-Austin on May 2-4. The UIL State speech events will be held on May 29-30.
