Northside softball playoffs to begin Thursday, April 27

An up and down district season, for many of the Northside softball teams, ended on Saturday, April 21. Warren enjoyed an early district lead with their only loss coming to Holmes. Holmes scored another victory in the second meeting between the two teams to grasp first place in the district. However, the district championship did not become final until the last game of the season because if Warren and Holmes had ended the season with identical records the two teams would have been declared co-champs and Holmes would have been first seed by virtue of head to head combat.

Clark spent the first round of district play in second place. Unfortunately, the starting pitcher endured a season-ending injury and the Lady Cougars watched as the team slipped from playoff contention.

Holmes wanted to return to the playoffs for the third time. The largest obstacle in their path was the Warren team. Although the two district losses experienced by the Lady Huskies were not at the hands of the Lady Warriors.

The Lady Bears and the Lady Panthers spent most of the district season chasing each other. After breaking the existing tie between the Lady Bears, Lady Panthers, and Lady Broncos—OC and Brennan wanted to secure a playoff birth.

Most teams in the district hoped to avoid New Braunfels Canyon; however, Brennan, last year’s UIL State championship semifinal team, drew the unlucky straw. O’Connor defeated Warren and Brennan defeated Taft in the last district game to guarantee their third and fourth place finishes respectively.

So who will be playing who and when in the playoffs?
