Northside Cross Country runners complete district race; runners advance to regional meet

On a cool and calm Saturday morning the cross country teams from Northside’s eleven high schools meet at the Alamo Golf club to participate in the district 6A cross country meet.

For the boy’s this year, Ethan Hageman from Holmes was hoping to earn his third consecutive district championship. A feat he accomplished with a winning time of 15:58.6 seconds. Hageman was joined by teammate Jett Knight in the top 10; with a Knight turning in a time of 16:24.6 seconds.

William Potter and Thomas Hinojosa kept the race interesting as they finished respectively second and third. Potter grabbed the silver medal with a time of 16:03.8.

Hinojosa snatched the bronze medal with a time of 16:05.4.

Nathan Perez from Warren was a few strides behind the bronze with a time of 16:14.3.

Completing the top five was Knight from Holmes.

Also qualifying for the regional meet were the sixth through tenth finishers in the district race. This included Marshall’s Mario De Jesus with a time of 16:35.5.

There were only short steps between the seventh and eight place runners. Seventh went to Benjamin Hecht from Clark with a time of 16:36.9.

John Camacho-santos was out stepped by Hecht and finished eighth with a time of 16:38.9.

Ninth and tenth place went to Brandeis teammates, Edward Irizarry and Tristan Hunter-Galvan. Irizarry finished with a time of 16:44 and Hunter-Galvan time of 16:47.4.

The Brandeis boys’ team earned the District Championship with 35 points; Holmes finishes second with 81 points; and O’Connor finished third with a close 83 points.

The cross country regional meet will be held in Corpus Christi, on Monday, October 23. The race will be run on the Texas A&M Corpus cross country course.

The first race is scheduled to start at 8:30am and the awards are scheduled for 2pm.
