NISD swimmers earn state trips

The goal of competing in the Class 5A and 6A Swim and Diving Meet was accomplished at this past weekend’s regional meets.

In the 6A Region 7 Meet, Northside ISD swimmers fared well.

Headlining the list of qualifiers were swimmer Jessica Engel of Clark and Health Careers diver Abby Miller

The top two finishers, along with the next eight best times in each event from the eight regions advance to the State Meet in Austin February 14-15.

Engel claimed the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:06.62 to outlast teammate Aspen Stallworth’s 2:08.43. Engel also placed second in the 100 backstroke after clocking in at 58.03.

Stallworth also qualified in the 100 freestyle (52.78) with a silver medal.

Miller took the girls’ diving gold medal by scoring 428.40. Marshall’s Victoria Horner also reached the state meet with a third-place score of 419.90.

McKenna Stallworth of Clark earned her trip with a runner-up showing in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.36.).

Brandeis’ Emily Gianotti was second in the 100 butterfly with a 57.80.  

Health Career’s 200 free relay of Suchi Paagadala, Mara Asmis, Beatrice Martin and Jenna Copes finished second with a 1:41.57.

In the boys’ competition, Brandeis’ Jake Nelms was second in the 200 free (1:43.62) and Matthew Su (51.81) was runner-up in the 100 backstroke. Jackson Stallworth of Clark received a call-up in the 100 fly after recording a 51.7.

At the 5A Region 8 Meet, Harlan’s John Delostrinos earned his trip after winning the 200 IM with a 1:57.86. He got a call-up in the 100 back (53.80).

Diver Nicholas McCann punched his ticket with a gold medal score of 472.10.
