FRISCO – The Missions put the final touch on its four-game sweep of Frisco by sticking to the same tactics that led to the previous three victories – quality pitching and hitting.
Texas League Pitcher of the Week Logan Allen provided a stout mound showing, while a number of players provided the bat support.
The Missions, who moved into sole possession of first place in the Texas League South Division during its Frisco trip, outscored the RoughRiders, 44-11.
Allen allowed four hits and struck out six with one walk through seven innings to pick up his league-leading fourth victory. He started the game by retiring the first 11 batters before Hunter Cole broke the string with a solo home run.
San Antonio’s bats also started strong.
Fernando Tatis Jr. led off the game with a homer. Two more runs crossed the plate in the third on Kyle Overstreet’s two-run single.
The Missions padded their lead to 6-1 the next two innings with Josh Naylor’s two-run double in the fourth and Overstreet and Michael Gettys’ singles in the fifth.
Missions relievers Eric Yardley and Gerardo Reyes shut down the RockHounds in the final two innings.
San Antonio returns home to begin a four-game series with Corpus Christi, which sits a game behind the Missions in the South Division.
