Local area to host Christmas celebrations

December 1,

City of Helotes

City of Helotes will host the annual tree lighting ceremony on Friday, December 1. The ceremony will take place at Helotes City Hall. Shuttle buses will begin service to City Hall at 5:30pm.

Helotes, Kuentz, and Triana Elementary School Choirs will perform and the Helotes Area Community Band will also play from 6pm until 6:30pm.

The official tree lighting will happen at 6:30pm. Those who would like to take pictures with Santa may do so at 7pm.

The last shuttle will depart City Hall at 9:30pm.

City of San Antonio

Aspiring Youth Artists from the City of San Antonio Parks and Recreations Department will be hosting a Gallery Show on Friday, December 1 from 6pm to 8pm. This 2nd annual show is the culmination of an 8 week long program, The Gallery. The program is designed to introduce Community Center participants to the world of fine art and allows them to discover and express their artistic talents while boosting self-confidence. Various artworks will be displayed during this free event. Refreshments and entertainment will be provided.

Roosevelt Park Clubhouse is located at 331 Roosevelt.

Hector Garcia MS

There will be 20 different activities and stations for our students/family to create pieces of art.

Taft High School

Taft High School Fine Arts Department will perform Beauty and the Beast on Thursday, November 30, Friday December 1, and Saturday December 2. Performances will be held at Taft High School Auditorium and will start at 7pm.

Brandeis HS

Brandeis Fine Arts Department will perform The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee—Musical on December 1 and December 2.

The performance will take place at the Brandeis High School Auditorium. Admission is $10 and starts at 7pm.


December 2

Leon Valley

The 29th annual Breakfast with Santa and Leon Noel program will be held

Saturday, December 2 at the Leon Valley Community Center. The Center is located at 6427 Evers Road. A la Carte Breakfast tacos, coffee, hot chocolate and more will be available at great prices. There will be live music and of course, that special guest—Santa Claus, will join us. Photos with Santa will be $2 including the special holiday folder. This event is fun for all ages.

Leon Noel is a special companion event that included quality crafts and a silent auction. Mark your calendars, Sunday December 2 8am until 10:30am at the Community Center. Advance tickets are available at the library for $5 and will purchase $6 worth of food tickets. Donations to the Friends of the Leon Valley Public Library may be tax deductible.

City of San Antonio

The 10th annual Humana Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio Marathon & ½ Marathon returns the weekend of December 2-3, 2017 and will welcome more than 26,000 runners from all 50 states and 21 countries. San Antonio residents can expect road closures and delays on Saturday and Sunday and are advised to plan ahead.

Saturday, December 2

7:00 am – Most road closures begin to take effect

7:30 am – Humana Rock ‘n’ Roll 10K & 5K Start

10:30 am – Most roads will be reopened

Sunday, December 3

6:30 am – Road closures begin

7:15 am –  Marathon, half marathon, relay and 5K start

3:45 pm –  All roads will be open

The Band will perform and host the 9th Annual Jazz’n with Santa Celebration and Arts and Crafts show. The show starts at noon and closes at 5pm in the OHS Vickery Building (AMP)
