Leon Valley (June 11, 2018)—In the interest of the continued safety of the City of Leon Valley’s citizens and the general public, the City is instituting a Clear Bag Policy for the Leon Valley July 4th event at Raymond Rimkus Park on July 4th from 5:00 p.m. until
The City has modified its security policy by limiting the size and style of bags allowed into the park. Prohibited bags include, but are not limited to, the following: purses larger than a clutch bag, coolers, briefcases, backpacks, fanny packs, cinch bags, seat
cushions, and luggage of any kind, computer bags and camera bags or any bag larger than the permissible size. *Medically necessary and diaper bags are allowed after proper inspection at the entry gate.
To be approved for entry into Raymond Rimkus Park for the July 4th event, bags or purses must be clear, plastic, vinyl or PVC, and cannot exceed 12 inches x 6 inches x 12 inches in size. Small, one-compartment, clutch purses that do not exceed 5.5 inches x 8.5 inches (with or without a handle or strap) also will be permitted. All bags will be subject to inspection at the entrance and may be subject to additional inspection inside the facility. The City reserves the right to prohibit any item deemed dangerous or unsuitable by the Leon Valley Police Department.
An exception will be made for medically necessary items and diaper bags after proper inspection at park entrances.
The safety of our guests is the City’s highest priority and we are instituting this policy to enhance public safety and to make entry more efficient and secure by limiting the size and style of bags allowed into the event. The clear bag reduces the likelihood of faulty bag searches, and continues our commitment to the Department of Homeland Security’s ‘If You See Something, Say Something’ campaign.”
