Last year, as Jack Phipps stood outside the arena gate he waited patiently to chase his dreams. Like most 4H students, the calf scramble at the major shows always pose a challenge and a reward. As he entered the gates he thought what it would be like to “catch”. Catch he did. Phipps successfully caught and chose to raise a market steer for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
So, like many of his peers this past summer he located his project animal “Bo”. He spent hours feeding, training, exercising, and bonding with Bo to prepare for the 2017 Houston show.
Bo and Phipps traveled to Houston, chasing one more dream—a grand champion or at least a trip into the sale ring.
Bo lived up to his expectations on the first day of showing. The judges enjoyed Phipps and Bo so well that he was awarded the Division Championship for Phipps.
Unfortunately, Bo was injured sometime during the time he left the ring on the first day and before he could return to the show ring for the second day. Due to Bo’s injury, he was not able to walk without showing his injury so Phipps missed the opportunity to reach the sale ring.
Bo and Phipps returned to Helotes as a champion and Phipps ready for next year’s adventure.
