It was an up and down night for Northside baseball; Softball dominates

Brennan Lady Bears softball team took advantage of a grounded double to bring home a runner.  This lone run would prove to be the winning score.  Brennan advanced to the regional quarterfinals and is scheduled to play a best of three against cross town opponent Johnson.

Tonight, the game moves across town when the Lady Bears will face off against the Lady Jaguars at North East ISD West field.  The first pitch will fly at 7pm.

If the Lady Bears win this game, they will advance to the regional semifinals and will face the winner of the Weslaco and Ediinburg matchup.

If the Lady Bears should lose tonight, they will play the final game of the best of three series on Saturday, at Steele High School.  The first pitch is scheduled for 2pm.

District Champion Holmes, survived a third inning scare against New Braunfels on Thursday night.  The New Braunfels Canyon team drove in three runs early in the game to hold a comfortable lead over the Lady Huskies.

In the bottom of the third, with one out, the Lady Huskies loaded the bases.  With an outfield grounder that was muffed by the Canyon center and right fielder, the Huskies would bring home two runners.

With bases loaded again in the bottom of the third, Canyon pitcher would walk in the tying run.

Late in the game, Canyon would attempt to steal the lead back with a run scored but the Lady Huskie bats had found the Canyon pitcher’s number and drove home two runs to win the first of the three-game series.

The game will now travel to New Braunfels where the Lady Huskies will play game two.  The first pitch is scheduled for 8pm at New Braunfels Canyon High School.

If the Lady Huskies win tonight, they will finish the series and advance to the regional semifinals to face the winner of the Harlingen South and South San matchup.

If they lose they will play the final game of the series on Saturday at SAISD Spring Sports Complex with a high noon showdown.

The Northside baseball teams continued play-off action this week as they faced opponents in the area round.

O’Connor met Johnson at the Alamo Heights baseball field last night and Johnson found the Panther pitcher’s number.  In a high-octane game, the Johnson Jaguars pounded out 12 runs to take the first game of a best of three series.

The  Panther bats connected to bring in five runners across the plate but it was not enough to defeat their opponent.

The series will continue tonight when the O’Connor and Johnson travel to the UTSA Roadrunner diamond.  The first pitch is scheduled for 7pm.

Brandeis Broncos faced Lake Travis on Thursday night at Roadrunner Field.  The Bronco batters drove two runs across the dish to take the lead in the best of three game series.

The Bronco defense prevented the Lake Travis team from finding the scoreboard.

Tonight, the series travels on the road to Lake Travis baseball diamond with the first pitch scheduled for 7:30pm.

If the Broncos win tonight, the series comes to a halt.  If the Broncos lose the series moves back to a neutral site at San Marcos High School with the first pitch scheduled for 4pm.
