All teams have the moment where they are given the chance to pause, reflect, and endure a dose of reality. Today was one such day for the Greater Helotes Little League Jr. Softball team. Coming off a two game losing streak, the team wanted to find their rhythm. Tonight against Europe-Africa the team completed a shutout and added a notch in the W column.
Annika LItterio opened the game for Greater Helotes, pitching two innings, recorded 6 first strike pitches, 5 strikeouts, 3 quality at bats, and 3 rbis, with two hits.
Olivia Ball pitched the last three innings of the game and recorded 2 hits, 4 rbi(s), 6 first pitch strikes, and two strikeouts for the game.
Southwest (GHLL) dominated the game from the first inning as the absent bats from the first game of the double header arrived with a vengeance. Southwest scored three runs in the first inning, in the second inning two runs crossed the dish, and at the final at-bat for the game Southwest scored 5 runs across the plate.
With the win Southwest improves to 2-2 overall in pool play. Europe-Africa drops to 0-3.
Pool play continues through Wednesday to determine seeding inside the bracket. Once bracket play begins on Thursday the tournament becomes a single elimination format.
Last year, three members of the Southwest team were members of last year’s Little League Major World Series Championship.
