little league teamThe Greater Helotes Little League 10-11 age group traveled to Fredericksburg on Thursday, July 9 to participate in the sectional tournament.  The team won the District 19 championship as an undefeated team.

The team played Natalia in the first round and beat them.  Both teams returned to the diamond on Friday, July 10 to determine the sectional champion and state qualifier.  Greater Helotes won the second meeting 21-2 and advance to the State tournament to be held in Abilene, Texas.

Three of the team members participated on the 9-10 year old division last year and were State Champions.

“We have great pitching, our hitters are phenomenal,” said David Ortiz.  “The team has jelled well with each other.  This has been a challenge because some of the team members had to step up to the challenge of playing older players who pitch faster and hit harder.  I am very proud of their effort.”

If Greater Helotes wins the State title it will be the third time in three years a team from Helotes won the State Championship.
