Driver flees from an accident on Leslie Road

Around 8am, Wednesday, April 4, Helotes police officers attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling on Braun Road. The driver of the vehicle, the officers were attempting to stop, immediately tried to evade capture.

According to reports, the driver started driving on the white traffic lines, so the officer kept a safe distance behind to keep the situation from developing into a high-speed chase.

The driver of the vehicle struck another car on Leslie Road. After the collision, the driver immediately left his vehicle and started running toward the brushy area near Vulcan.

The officer called for back up and the assistance of the SAPD helicopter. The helicopter patrolled the area for over twenty-five minutes but could not locate anyone.

Helotes police officers searched the area on foot but could not locate the driver. Police dispatch did not receive any calls of suspicious people walking through their yards or attempting to hide near their house.

During the investigation of the vehicle, Helotes police learned that San Antonio Police Department had received a report around 6am notifying them the car had been stolen.

Helotes police officers are continuing the investigation into the accident. The department has received several strong leads. When the driver is apprehended he will be charged with evading arrest and other violations.

San Antonio Police Department will be responsible for investigating the stolen vehicle charges.
