Chasing a repeat:  Greater Helotes Little League advances to sectionals

Last year, the Greater Helotes Little League softball team chased a dream to Portland, Oregon.  The young ladies had played together for four years with the goal and expectation of a championship in their sights.  In an undefeated tournament run the athletes from Helotes achieved their dream.

In 2017 the Little League team is attempting to defend its win.  Although it is a new group of girls in this age group, they are just as driven and enthusiastic as last year’s crew.  They blasted through the district tournament undefeated and will open sectional play tonight in Eagle Pass.  If the team wins tonight, they face Charlotte/ Natalia tomorrow at 8pm.  The Championship game will be played on the July 10.

The 9-11 want to repeat as State Champions this year.  They too went through the district competition as district champions.  They play in Fredericksburg tonight at 8pm against Eagle Pass.  If they win they will play in the championship game at 8pm.

The 8-10 want to avenge the loss in the State finals last year.  They raced through the district tournament as champions and open sectional play tonight in Fredericksburg.  They will play at 6pm against Pearsall.

The Junior League girls and last year’s Little League World Series Champions are hoping to win and travel to the World Series for Juniors. They play in the sectional tournament tonight in Fredericksburg and if they win will play in the championship game on July 9.

In Little League Baseball action, the 50/70 team won the district championship and will play tonight in the sectional tournament at Bulverde.  The game starts at 8:30 pm and if they win against Western Little League will play for the championship on July 9th at 7pm.
