Bull blowout still scheduled; Barn Buddies rescheduled

This weekend Helotes will host two events—the HFA Bull Blowout and Children’s Lighthouse fall festival.  The Barn Buddies stock show has been rescheduled to Saturday, October 27 because of weather.

The Helotes Festival Association opens the gates to 80 four legged guests this weekend as 80 cowboys try to remain onboard for 8 seconds.  The bulls are being provided by JD Nix who has provided bulls for the PBR (Professional Bull Riding) finals and has partnered with other stock contractors to supply rank stock to keep the cowboys focused.

At the end of the bull riding on Friday and Saturday night everyone can move down to the covered pavilion for a concert.  Cody Wayne plays Friday night and Felix Truvere on Saturday.

Tickets are still available.  $10 general admission at the gate.  Individual box seats can be purchased for $25 and a group of 6 for $250.

Children’s Lighthouse of Helotes is hosting its ninth annual Fall Festival on Saturday October 20, 2018 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The family focused event, which is free and open to the public, will feature kid-friendly games, face painting, a DJ, food and drinks, raffles and a moon bounce. Fall Festival will take place at the center, located at 9706 Business Parkway, Helotes, Texas, 78023.

“We can’t wait for our Fall Festival,” said Cyndi Rubio, executive director of Children’s Lighthouse Helotes. “The festival will be a great time and the perfect opportunity for the entire community to come together and celebrate the season. There will be plenty of games and activities for children so the whole family can have fun at the event!”

All members of the community and local media are invited to join the festivities.

The Helotes 4H rescheduled the Barn Buddies special show originally scheduled for Saturday October, 20 until Saturday October, 27.  The show allows students and parents who may not be familiar with livestock and the animal projects of 4H to have a hands-on practice session.  Each show entrant is paired with a four legged and two-legged buddy who will then provide practice and instruction on the finer points of exhibiting a livestock project.

After the buddies have become accustomed to each other, the animals are then escorted to the show ring by the 4H member and their buddy for the day.  Each entry is judged and after the show is completed lunch will be served.

The Barn Buddy event will take place at the Helotes 4H Center located on Leslie Road across from Sandra Day O’Connor High Schoo.
