America loses Hollywood Icon, Mary Tyler Moore

Mary Tyler Moore known for her role as a housewife, and then as a single career woman has died today at the age of 80.

Moore, a Type 1 diabetic, had long suffered a variety of health problems.  Moore was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 33, but did not allow the disease to stop her career.

Moore was best known for her first role on the Dick Van Dyke Show, Laura Petrie and from 1970-1977 Mary Richards on The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

In 2012 Mary Tyler Moore received the Life Achievement Award from the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards.
